Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams finally got off the mark for the season as Athletic Club battled to a vital 2–1 win over RCD Mallorca in LaLiga on Saturday.
The 31-year-old ended a nine-game goal drought across all competitions, showing trademark composure from the penalty spot to hand Athletic an early lead at San Mamés.
It was his first goal of the 2025/26 campaign — one that arrived at a timely moment for both club and country as he looks to find top form ahead of Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers.
Williams’ pace and movement kept Mallorca’s defence on edge until he was forced off early in the second half with a minor thigh issue. His early strike, however, set the tone for Athletic’s first win in seven matches, lifting them into LaLiga’s top five.
For the Black Stars, the goal will be a welcome boost. With crucial qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros next week, Otto Addo will hope Williams carries that confidence and cutting edge into Ghana’s bid for a fifth World Cup appearance.
