The Deputy Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA) has announced that all National Service personnel will begin military training this year.
This is part of a new initiative aimed at building discipline, patriotism, and resilience among young graduates.
Fuseini Donkor, speaking on Prime Morning News Flash, explained that the training is designed to instil a sense of national responsibility and strengthen the mindset of service personnel.
He revealed that while all NSS personnel will take part in the program, nurses and teachers will receive special attention starting next year due to the critical nature of their professions.
“Nurses and teachers are the most important in this field. From next year, all teachers and nurses will be going through military training,” he said.
He emphasised that these two groups are essential to the nation’s development because they directly influence both the mind and the health of citizens.
“Special attention will be given to these two essential service providers because they deal with the mind and the health of our nation.
"If the nurse is properly psyched, your health is in safe hands; if the teacher is psyched, the minds of our children are in safe hands,” he added.
Mr Donkor further stated that the training would include basic military drills and elementary weapon-handling techniques under the supervision of the Ghana Armed Forces.
He clarified that the program does not extend to senior high school students since most are between 12 and 17 years old and, therefore, do not qualify.
He added that some universities have already integrated similar drills into their extracurricular activities, although the military has yet to release the official training manual for implementation
