Sports Minister Kofi Adams says Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is effectively sealed.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, the Minister said the team’s dominant performance against the Central African Republic had made their spot in the tournament a certainty.
“The goal difference is huge, and it is not possible for Madagascar to go to Mali and beat them by 8-0, and then we will lose by 8-0 to Comoros,” he said.
“It’s just not possible. So technically speaking, we are there, and we considered this game as a qualification game.”
The Black Stars moved within a point of qualification after a commanding 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic in Morocco. Four second-half goals sealed the result, extending Ghana’s lead at the top of Group I to three points.
Kofi Adams said Sunday’s final qualifier should be seen as a celebration rather than a decider.
“Sunday is just for us to get to the stadium to celebrate the players,” he said.
“They will play for us, but we, the supporters, must come to the stadium to celebrate them. On Sunday, the 12th of October, all of us must come to this.”
The Minister’s confidence reflects widespread optimism after the team’s latest performance, which puts Ghana on the verge of securing a place at the 2026 World Cup to be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
