The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere-Duah, has predicted that there will be no outright winner in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on Monday, October 13, Mr Kyere-Duah said the contest among the five aspirants is expected to be fiercely competitive, making a run-off almost certain.
“I do not foresee any outright winner in the first round — that one is clear,” he stated.
He explained that the eventual run-off would depend on which candidate can marshal the support of others after the first round.
According to the MP, although former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is widely regarded as the frontrunner, his chances of securing an outright victory in the first round are slim.
“So Dr Bawumia saying he is going to be an outright winner and some polls suggesting 70% for Dr Bawumia — I think that is not going to happen,” he argued.
Mr Kyere-Duah concluded by reiterating his commitment to his party’s agenda.
“But as I indicated, our interest and our focus are to continue to support President John Dramani Mahama to deliver,” he added.
He, however, noted that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will suffer another defeat in the 2028 general elections, no matter who wins the party’s upcoming presidential primary.
