The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has been commended for organizing the maiden Ashanti Regional Inter-District Football Competition that has united communities and inspired youth engagement across the region.
As part of his efforts to unearth football talents in Ashanti, the minister initiated football competitions among communities in all 43 districts of the region.
Each district will select players for representation during the main inter-district competition where the winner qualifies to the Christmas gala which will be organized by the Regional Minister.
Speaking to Luv Sports during the finals of the Obuasi East’s inter-town where Odumasi beat Akaporiso by 2-0, the Municipal Chief Executive, William Kofi Adzowu, praised the initiative as a timely platform for talent discovery, regional cooperation and social development.

According to him, the competition has not only boosted healthy rivalry among districts but has also encouraged the youth to channel their energy into productive and disciplined activities.
“Dr. Frank Amoakohene has put up a great initiative especially for the Ashanti Region. I applaud him for at least thinking about the youth while he's a youth himself.
“That's the best thing to and that's exactly what's doing. We thank him for starting the initiative,” he said.
The MCE further highlighted the Regional Minister’s leadership and vision in using sports as a tool for fostering unity, peace and development. The MCE stressed that such events strengthen collaboration among local assemblies and promote grassroots participation in governance.
Mr. Adzowu expressed optimism in his district’s chances during the main zonal games which will take place in November 2025.
“Football never dies in Obuasi and for that matter, the Ashanti Region as well as Mother Ghana. Once upon a time, we had a Black Stars squad with seven or ten players from Obuasi or has something to do Obuasi football academy so I believe we still have the talent. Obuasi is full of players we will make sure those days are back.
“The history is clear. Football is made in Obuasi. No two ways about that. I will just be happy to Municipal Obuasi emerging as winners and I’m very sure Obuasi is going to qualify from Zone 3,” he added
