Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged China’s support to help Ghana transform its resource wealth into sustainable development and benefit from Beijing’s zero-tariff policy for African countries.
He made the remarks during bilateral talks with President John Dramani Mahama in Beijing, held on the sidelines of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.
The meeting coincided with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China and focused on strengthening political and economic cooperation between the two nations.
President Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ghana and called for closer collaboration in strategic sectors.
“China is ready to work with Ghana to promote the upgrading of cooperation in various fields and make greater contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era,” President Xi said.
He also emphasised the need to implement the outcomes of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and explore new opportunities in mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and fisheries.
President Mahama congratulated China on hosting the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, describing the event as a demonstration of China’s leadership in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment globally.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s adherence to the One-China policy and expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in key sectors.
“Our partnership with China has always been anchored on mutual respect and shared development goals. We look forward to strengthening this bond for the benefit of our two nations,” President Mahama said.
Mahama also stressed Ghana’s commitment to multilateralism and global governance reforms, calling for fairness and justice in international relations.
The meeting reinforced the long-standing partnership between Ghana and China, with both leaders expressing confidence in building a more dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship in the years ahead.
