Labour Consultant, Austin Gamey, has lauded the government’s plan to introduce the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS), describing it as a bold step toward eliminating favouritism and corruption in job recruitment.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, Mr Gamey said the new digital platform, once fully operational, would help end the long-standing “who you know” culture that often determines access to jobs in Ghana.
According to him, the system, which will host job vacancies from both the public and private sectors, will promote transparency, fairness, and merit-based employment.
“That corrupt attitude, that unaccountable kind of attitude in the country would have ceased as a result of that, and it is done all over the world,” he said.
“I can tell you on authority that it will eliminate the ‘who you know’ matter because JoyNews, your station, will be compelled by law to submit employment and unemployment availability and unavailability, so that everybody who seeks employment at JoyNews will not see you to hold his hand and send him somewhere,” he explained.
The Ghana Labour Market Information System, announced by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Rashid Pelpuo, will provide a centralised online platform where job seekers can explore and apply for available positions nationwide.
It will also be accessible at labour offices across the country.
Mr Gamey commended the initiative and urged the government to ensure that the system is well-managed and inclusive to guarantee equal access for all qualified Ghanaians.
