The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante Akim Central, Dr. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, has announced that players selected to represent the municipality in the upcoming Ashanti Inter-District Soccer Competition will be camped ahead of the tournament.
According to him, the camping exercise is aimed at preparing the team both physically and mentally to ensure they perform exceptionally well at the regional event.
He expressed strong confidence that the Asante Akim Central team will emerge victorious in this year’s competition.
“We are preparing seriously for the gala and we want to win the cup, so we are training our team, we are done with our selection of best 18.
“Those players will be camped, we will feed them, train them because we are serious. We are not taking this as just entertainment, we are taking this as a tournament so it’s a world cup for us in Asante Akim,” he said.
The MCE highlighted the importance of the inter-district soccer competition, describing it as a key platform for promoting unity, social cohesion, and economic growth within the Ashanti Region.
“This is great initiative because festival like this brings unity and boosts the local economy.
“One thing I like about this is the talent discovery. Through this, we have discovered that some people can play good soccer, but they were not known so we are pleading, those talents that will be discovered, we should train them and groom them and we in Asante Akim Central, we will do that,” he added.
Dr. Aidoo reaffirmed his commitment to supporting sports development in the municipality, emphasizing that sports play a vital role in youth empowerment and talent discovery.
The Ashanti Inter-District Soccer Competition is expected to bring together teams from across the region, showcasing some of the best emerging football talents while strengthening regional unity.
