The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has received a high-level delegation from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) at the organisation’s headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by Mr Christoph Rauh, Director for Africa at the BMZ, is in Abuja for ongoing senior-level negotiations between ECOWAS and the Government of Germany.
During the courtesy call, Mr Rauh emphasised that while peace and security remain central pillars of cooperation, Germany intends to deepen its focus on economic development and private-sector growth across West Africa.
He explained that strengthening long-standing ties with ECOWAS and amplifying their developmental impact across the region remained a priority.
The Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Mrs Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, provided an update on the progress of current negotiations, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to productive engagement.
Responding, H.E. Dr Touray expressed appreciation to the German Government for its continued partnership and support.
He reiterated ECOWAS’ dedication to a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship anchored in shared ownership, constructive dialogue, and sustainable development outcomes.
