Ghanaian vlogger and storyteller Wode Maya took viewers on an emotional and visually stunning journey last Saturday on Joy Prime in the latest episode of WodeMaya Travels titled “Back to China - Where It All Began.”
The episode revisited the country where his dreams first took shape and where his mission to tell Africa’s story from an authentic lens was born.
Wode Maya, who studied Aeronautical Engineering at Shenyang Aerospace University in China, retraced his steps through the cities, universities, and communities that influenced his path. Once a student in a foreign land, he now returns as a globally recognised content creator, using his platform to highlight Africa’s role on the world stage.
The episode offered viewers several highlights: Wode reconnecting with familiar faces and institutions from his past; joining Ghana’s President on a state visit to Beijing to amplify African voices in international spaces; and reflecting on how his experiences in China shaped his storytelling across more than 38 African countries.
It also showcased breathtaking Chinese landscapes, rich cultural exchanges, and the fusion of African and Asian identities through the eyes of a Ghanaian creative determined to reshape global narratives.
For Ghanaian and African audiences, the programme went beyond travel entertainment. It served as a reminder that growth often circles back to one’s roots, and that Africa’s place in global dialogue is active, not passive.
WodeMaya Travels airs every Saturday at 6 p.m. on Joy Prime, offering insightful storytelling, cultural depth, and inspiring journeys that connect continents and generations.
