The National Identification Authority (NIA) has pushed back against a viral TikTok video by an individual known online as “Sefwi Biggest Trapper,” who accused some NIA officers at the Bono Premium Centre of extorting money from him and other applicants.
In a notice issued on Sunday, November 16, 2025, the Authority said it was deeply concerned about the video, sharply criticising the individual’s conduct, which it described as unruly and disruptive during his visit to the centre on November 11.
The NIA noted that his behaviour created significant disorder and posed risks to other applicants present.
Despite the disruption, the Executive Secretary, Wisdom Kwaku Deku, and the Management of the NIA reiterated their firm zero-tolerance policy on extortion and misconduct by staff.
The Authority revealed that efforts to reach the accuser and his companion, identified as Appiah Comfort, have so far failed. The case has now been referred to the NIA’s Internal CID for a full and independent investigation.
In response to the incident, management has also begun rolling out enhanced security measures across all NIA operational centres to protect both staff and applicants.
The NIA urged the individual to present any evidence he claims to possess, stressing that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary and legal action.
The Authority also used the opportunity to clarify its official service fees. At Premium Centres, first-time registration costs GH¢310, updating personal information costs GH¢355, and replacing lost or damaged cards costs GH¢420.
At District Offices, first-time registration is free, personal information updates cost GH¢60, and card replacement costs GH¢125.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the NIA encouraged the public to report genuine concerns through its official phone lines or by emailing info@nia.gov.gh.
