One of two independent candidates in the Akwatia Parliamentary election in 2008 has called for a re-run of the election in ten rather than six polling stations in the constituency.According to Sam Abrakwa four other polling stations were equally replete with massive irregularities. The Supreme Court recently ruled in favour of the Electoral Commission and called for the election to be held in only six polling stations instead of the whole constituency, as petitioned by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Baba Jamal. The six polling stations were dogged with electoral fraud as well as reported cases of ballot box snatching.Even before a date will be set aside for a bye-election, the NDC propaganda secretary who claims to be the spokesperson of Mr Abrakwa told Citi News, four more constituencies should be added to the disputed six.He argued the number of voters on the day exceeded the number of registered voters in the electoral roll.According to him, the irregularities occurred at the Presby JSS, Presby Church, Palace A, and Palace B polling stations. But the NPP aspirant for the constituency Dr. Kofi Asare has questioned the demands by the independent candidate.Dismissing the allegations, Dr. Amoah said by “simple arithmetic” nobody can say the actual voters on the day exceeded the registered voters. He attributed the alleged disparities to transferred votes and called on opposition groups to up their arithmetic skills.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
