Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Mr Alhassan Suhuyini, has reiterated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not, at this stage, considering a third term for President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, December 23, Mr Suhuyini said, “I don’t think that at this stage, the NDC is minded at all to consider a third term for President Mahama.”
He stressed that the party remains committed to the constitutional two-term limit for presidents.
Mr Suhuyini’s comments follow findings by the Constitution Review Committee, chaired by Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, which indicated that proposals for a third presidential term found no political or constitutional support.
According to Prof. Prempeh, there was neither public nor political appetite for such a change, adding that the President himself had shown no interest in pursuing a third term.
Mr Suhuyini said the NDC’s focus remains on strengthening governance, implementing its policy agenda, and maintaining public confidence, rather than pursuing constitutional amendments for personal or partisan gain.
He emphasised that the party’s priority is to safeguard political stability and uphold democratic norms, assuring Ghanaians that any suggestion of a third term for President Mahama is neither contemplated nor entertained by the NDC.
