A major fire outbreak has devastated a cluster of commercial containers at Tadisco Down in Takoradi, Western Region, causing significant property losses.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) through the Sekondi Metro Fire Station, the incident occurred on Monday, December 22.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze began in one container and quickly spread to several others housing provision shops, a cold store, and a sewing centre.

The responding GNFS appliance experienced a mechanical fault while en route, delaying the team slightly; however, firefighters managed to reach the scene promptly.

Upon arrival, the GNFS crew, led by Assistant Divisional Officer II (ADO II) Enoch Baah and supervised by Sekondi Metro Fire Officer, Divisional Officer III (DO III) Michael Tetteh, moved to contain the flames.

Despite the rapid spread, the firefighters confined the fire to ten containers, bringing it under control within minutes and fully extinguishing it shortly after midnight.

While no injuries or fatalities were recorded, the fire destroyed four containers completely, leaving only six containers and a chop bar salvageable.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered by the explosion of a prepaid electricity meter, although GNFS officials have stated that further investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact cause.
