In a heartwarming display of interfaith solidarity, some Ghanaians joined Israeli Ambassador H.E. Roey Gilad to mark the Jewish Hanukkah festival at his residence in Accra.
The event brought together notable figures, including Emmanuel Bedzrah, MP for Ho East; Otiko Afisa Djaba, former NPP Women's Organiser; Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an international evangelist; and Herbert Malm.

Ambassador Gilad shared the rich history behind Hanukkah, the "Festival of Lights," which commemorates the Maccabees' courageous reclaiming of the Second Temple in Jerusalem from Syrian-Greek rulers.
The miracle of the oil, which burned for eight days, inspires the tradition of lighting a menorah nightly and enjoying oil-fried foods like latkes.
The Story of Hanukkah

Over 2,000 years ago, King Antiochus IV banned Jewish rituals, defiling the Temple with idols.
The Maccabees, a small band of rebels, fought against the mighty Greek army, reclaiming Jerusalem after three years. Upon entering the Temple, they found a tiny jar of olive oil, enough for one day, but it miraculously burned for eight, allowing time to prepare new oil.
A Celebration of Freedom and Resilience
The event was attended by Ghana's diplomatic community, showcasing the country's commitment to interfaith understanding.

As candles were lit, the gathering reflected on the universal themes of freedom, resilience, and the triumph of light over darkness.
The Ghanaian dignitaries expressed their appreciation for Israel's contributions to Ghana, particularly in agriculture and innovation. Ambassador Gilad emphasized the shared values of perseverance and faith that bind nations together.

As the menorah's flames danced, Ghana and Israel celebrated a festival that transcends borders, reminding us that miracles can happen when courage and faith converge .
