The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that construction work is underway on the refurbishment of the VIP Lounge at Kotoka International Airport.
He described the project as a key step in enhancing Ghana’s international image.
In a post on his Facebook page, the Minister said he inspected the ongoing refurbishment while en route to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs retreat on Saturday.

The VIP block, which falls under the supervision of the Ministry, is being transformed into a modern facility aimed at reflecting Ghana’s stature to high-profile visitors.
He noted that the VIP Lounge often serves as the first point of contact for diplomats, investors, eminent tourists, and other distinguished guests, making the upgrade a strategic priority.

According to the Minister, the refurbishment project is being undertaken at no cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer, having been sponsored by corporate organisations as part of their corporate social responsibility and in support of President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda.
The Minister disclosed that the construction is expected to be completed within four months, after which local creatives will be engaged to give the facility a distinctly Ghanaian outlook.

Plans are also in place to serve only Made-in-Ghana meals at the lounge, a move intended to promote the country’s indigenous culinary sector.
The refurbishment forms part of broader efforts to modernise key national infrastructure while leveraging private sector support to drive value and efficiency.
