The National Labour Commission (NLC) has intervened in a looming industrial crisis in the judiciary, summoning the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Finance to a hearing.
This follows a formal notice from the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) signalling its intention to strike over the unpaid eight-month salary arrears.
In a letter dated January 14, 2026, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Dr Bernice A. Welbeck, the NLC confirmed receipt of JUSAG's strike notice dated January 12.
The central grievance is the non-payment of salary arrears covering the period from January to August 2025.

Exercising its authority under Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the Commission has mandated both the Judicial Secretary and the Ministry of Finance to provide a definitive status update on the outstanding payments within three working days.
Furthermore, a hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm, where all parties are expected to appear.
The NLC has advised JUSAG to suspend any planned industrial action and to cooperate fully with the mediation process.
