A 20-year-old man, Maxwell Awuni, popularly known as Y2K, has been sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Sefwi Bodi Circuit Court in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The sentence follows his conviction for a robbery incident that occurred at Sefwi Elluibo. Awuni was arraigned on Thursday, January 15, 2026, before His Honour Frank Asiedu Nimarkoh after a full trial on charges of conspiracy to rob, robbery, and possession of firearms or ammunition without lawful authority.
The court found Awuni guilty on all three counts. He received 30 years’ imprisonment with hard labour each for conspiracy to rob and robbery, under Sections 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
For possession of firearms or ammunition without lawful authority, contrary to Section 11 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour. All sentences are to run concurrently.
Following the judgment, Awuni was remanded in custody and is currently being held in a police cell pending transfer to Kumasi Central Prison to commence his sentence.
The Juaboso District Police Command, led by Superintendent Isaac Ostin, has assured residents that the police will continue to work diligently to maintain public safety and protect the community.
