A planned power interruption will affect Cape Coast and surrounding communities on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced the five-hour outage in a joint statement on Friday.
The shutdown is necessary to complete the final commissioning of a new 66MVA power transformer at the Cape Coast Substation.

According to the utilities, the infrastructure upgrade is a critical investment aimed at significantly boosting the substation's capacity. The enhancement is expected to result in a more stable and reliable electricity supply for the region's residents and businesses in the long term.
“The transformer upgrade will enhance the overall quality and stability of electricity supply in the region,” the joint statement affirmed.
GRIDCo and ECG assured the public that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the work is completed within the scheduled window.
They apologised for the inconvenience caused by the essential temporary outage and reaffirmed their commitment to improving the national power transmission and distribution network.
