The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has officially set Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as the date for a Parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The poll follows the unfortunate death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Naser Toure, which has rendered the seat vacant.
In a press release dated January 16, 2026, the Commission outlined the process and schedule for prospective candidates. According to the release signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman for Operations, nominations will be received at the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the EC in North Ridge from Monday, February 9, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

Interested candidates can download nomination forms from the EC’s official website, www.ec.gov.gh/forms, beginning Friday, January 16, 2026. The completed forms must be delivered in quadruplicate, in person by the candidate or by their proposer or seconder, within the stipulated nomination period.
Candidates must ensure their forms are witnessed by a proposer and seconder, both registered voters in the constituency, and supported by eighteen other registered voters from Ayawaso East.
Each candidate must also submit two recent bust-sized photographs against a red background and pay a non-refundable filing fee. The fee is set at GH¢10,000 for general candidates, with a reduced rate of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
This by-election is being conducted in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, as amended, which mandates the EC to hold an election to fill a parliamentary vacancy.
The Commission has urged the public to be guided accordingly as it prepares to oversee a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
