Former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has cautioned against underestimating delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying they are focused on choosing a candidate capable of winning the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, January 17, the NPP flagbearer aspirant said delegates are more strategic and discerning than many assume.
According to Dr Adutwum, party delegates are carefully evaluating aspirants based on competence, vision and electability.
“Don’t underestimate the delegates of the NPP,” he said, stressing that they understand the political terrain and the expectations of the Ghanaian electorate.
“They are looking for somebody who can win the 2028 polls, not just somebody who can make noise.”
He explained that delegates engage with ordinary voters in their communities and are therefore aware of the issues that resonate nationally.
“When you talk to the delegates, they know what the people are saying on the ground,” Dr Adutwum noted, adding that this makes their decision-making process more grounded and pragmatic.
Responding to suggestions that per his demeanour he may be more appealing to delegates in a contest for the national presidency than party delegates, Mr Adu Twum said the contest on January 31 is both for the well-being of the party and nation at large, and urged delegates not to look beyond him in electin the right man for job.
