Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held a meeting with Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie at her office in Accra.

During the courtesy call, the Chief Justice was accompanied by Mr Musah Ahmed, the Judicial Secretary and Prof Raymond Atuguba, the Director of the Ghana School of Law.

Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie briefed the Vice President on the judiciary’s key achievements over the past year and outlined priority initiatives for the year ahead.

The Chief Justice shared plans to decongest the courts through measures such as morning and afternoon court sessions, expanding Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services, and specialised courts, including galamsey courts, dedicated to prosecuting illegal mining cases.

He also announced ongoing revisions to the Rules of Court, expected to come into force by March, as well as proposals to decentralise the Ghana Law School entrance examination by accrediting selected law faculties to administer the standardised exam nationwide.

In addition, concerns were raised about security and office space at the Supreme Court Complex; plans are underway to construct a new complex.

The Chief Justice also discussed plans to accelerate E- Justice and make it operational.

Vice President Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed her appreciation for the visit and the comprehensive update and reaffirmed my support for the Judiciary’s efforts to improve efficiency and access to justice, particularly the initiatives aimed at decongesting the courts.
