The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) declared Friday, 23rd January 2026, as a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for teachers across the country, with learners observing a holiday to allow educators to participate fully in capacity-building activities.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, January 15, the GES explained that the decision underscores the critical role of continuous professional development in improving teaching quality and strengthening the professional capacity of educators nationwide.
According to the Service, the declaration is specifically intended to provide teachers with the necessary institutional support and dedicated time to take part in Phase Two of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection training programme.
The training aims to equip teachers with essential skills and knowledge in digital safety, data protection and the responsible use of technology in the education sector.
GES noted that setting aside a full day for the exercise will ensure that teachers are able to engage in the training without disruptions to academic work.
As a result, Friday, January 23, has been officially declared a holiday for learners in all public pre-tertiary schools across the country.
The GES has assured parents and guardians that normal academic activities will resume after the CPD Day, adding that the long-term benefits of the training will contribute significantly to improved education delivery nationwide.
