Professor of Political Science and Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) January 31 presidential primary as a battle between data-driven political science and prophetic predictions.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Prof. Gyampo said the contest appears to be shaping up as “a contest between science and prophecy,” with election forecasting models on one hand and spiritual declarations on the other competing to influence public perception ahead of the vote.
“I see this contest coming on the 31st as a contest between science—whether methodologically flawless—and prophecy, whether false or exact,” he said.
Prof. Gyampo referenced the work of political analyst Mussa Dankwah of Global Info Analytics, noting that despite earlier criticisms and ridicule, Dankwah’s predictions ahead of the 2024 general elections proved accurate. He said the analyst’s consistency has strengthened confidence in scientific polling and data-based forecasting.
“I followed Mussa Dankwah in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. He was the only one who was right. He was described as a lotto forecaster, with all kinds of derogatory labels, but he kept proving right,” Prof. Gyampo stated.
At the same time, he acknowledged the growing influence of religious prophecies in Ghana’s political space, particularly within the NPP. He noted that a respected and usually reserved prophet had recently spoken forcefully about revelations concerning the party’s internal contest.
“I’ve also seen a very calm, quiet, revered prophet who ideally would not speak. But this time, he has been forceful in articulating that God has revealed something to him,” he added.
His comments follow public statements by Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun, founder and leader of Spiritlife Revival Ministries, who linked a series of past prophecies to what he described as divine confirmation concerning NPP presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong. The prophecy was delivered during the church’s 31st-night crossover service on December 31, 2025, an event attended by Mr Agyapong and his wife.
Addressing the congregation, Prophet Elbernard said the same spiritual source behind earlier political predictions— including one he claims foretold President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 election victory—had revealed a message about Mr Agyapong’s political future.
Meanwhile, scientific projections continue to point in a different direction. The final predictive model released by Global Info Analytics on Friday, January 23, 2026, indicates that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the frontrunner in the NPP race, with what it described as the enduring “Bawumia Factor” outweighing the strong grassroots momentum behind Kennedy Agyapong.
