Kwame Tieku, Chief Executive Officer of Star Oil, has sparked debate over customer service standards in the country’s fuel retail sector, linking poor service to the widespread practice of outsourcing pump attendants.
In a post on his Facebook timeline, Mr Tieku wrote: “If, as an OMC, your customer service attendant (pump attendant) is not an employee, but an outsourced, poorly paid casual worker, don’t expect your customers to be treated well!!”
The statement comes against the backdrop of an ongoing pricing dispute between Star Oil and other oil marketing companies (OMCs) in the country, which has placed the spotlight on operational practices within service stations.

Mr Tieku stressed that Star Oil has invested in full-time, well-trained staff as part of its strategy to enhance customer experience, a move he said sets the company apart from competitors relying heavily on casual labour.
