The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced plans to intensify enforcement efforts against unlicensed jewellery manufacturers, gold fabricators and gold refineries operating in the country, following concerns over widespread non-compliance with licensing requirements.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, January 28, GoldBod disclosed that it has become aware that several entities within the gold value chain are conducting business without a valid licence issued by the Board.
'It has come to the attention of the Ghana Gold Board ("GoldBod") that some jewellery manufacturers, fabricators and gold refineries are operating without a valid licence from the GoldBod," the statement read.
The Authority stressed that only duly licensed persons and companies are permitted to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication and gold refining activities in Ghana.
According to GoldBod, operating in any of these sectors without the requisite licence constitutes an offence under Act 1140 and is punishable by law.
"Engaging in these activities without a valid GoldBod licence constitutes an offence and punishable under Act 1140."
The Board recalled that in a previous press statement issued on 22nd October, 2025, all existing jewellery manufacturers, fabricators and gold refineries were directed to regularise their operations by 31st December, 2025.
"On October 22, 2025, the GoldBod issued a press statement which indicated that all existing jewellery manufacturers, fabricators and gold refineries were required to regularize their operations latest by 31st December 2025."

This directive, GoldBod noted, was intended to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and to strengthen oversight within the gold trading sector.
In light of continued non-compliance beyond the stipulated deadline, GoldBod announced that a team of inspectors will be deployed nationwide from Monday, 2nd February, 2026, to ensure that only licensed operators are engaged in jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication and gold refining activities.
The Board also used the opportunity to commend jewellery manufacturing entities that have successfully completed the licensing process and have been duly issued with a GoldBod Jewellery and Fabrication Licence. The licensed entities are:
- Sourcechain Enterprise
- Shepaj Limited Company
- Koshuuz Enterprise
- M.J. Jewellery Limited Company
- Mahmoud’s Jewellery Limited
- Agyaba Jewellery
- Gold Casting
- Goldlovers GH Limited
- Wappahs Jewellery
- Mahalaxmi Ghana Limited
- Sahara Jewellery Limited Company
GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws and regulations governing the gold trading sector, emphasising that its actions are guided by the principles of accountability, transparency and responsible resource management.
"GoldBod remains committed to enforcing the laws and regulations that govern the gold trading sector in the spirit of accountability and transparency," the statement concluded.
