A total of 211,849 delegates of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to cast their ballots in the party’s flagbearer race on Saturday, 31 January, with the delegate strength spread across all sixteen regions of the country.
Out of a total of 211,849 delegates nationwide, the Greater Accra Region holds the largest bloc, contributing 40,175 delegates, representing 18.96 per cent of the total register.
Closely following is the Ashanti Region, long regarded as the party’s electoral backbone, with 36,626 delegates, accounting for 17.29 per cent.
The Eastern Region ranks third, with 21,843 delegates, making up 10.31 per cent of the total. Central Region contributes 18,718 delegates, equivalent to 8.84 per cent, while the Western Region has 14,132 delegates, representing 6.67 per cent.
In the Volta Region, 12,589 delegates are expected to participate, constituting 5.94 per cent of the national total. The Northern Region follows closely with 12,206 delegates, or 5.76 per cent.
The Upper East Region accounts for 8,588 delegates (4.05 per cent), while the Bono and Bono East regions contribute 7,871 (3.72 per cent) and 7,840 (3.70 per cent) delegates respectively. Upper West has 6,876 delegates, representing 3.25 per cent, and Western North records 6,429 delegates, or 3.03 per cent.
Smaller delegate numbers are recorded in the Oti Region, which has 5,495 delegates (2.59 per cent), Ahafo with 4,338 delegates (2.05 per cent), Savannah with 4,155 delegates (1.96 per cent), and the North East Region, which contributes 3,654 delegates, accounting for 1.72 per cent.
The party’s diaspora vote remains marginal, with 824 delegates, representing just 0.39 per cent of the total register.
