Kwabena Abankwa-Yeboah, Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee, has confirmed that no polling station will collate or declare results before 2pm during today’s flagbearer election.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile as voting continues nationwide, he explained that all 333 polling stations conducting the exercise on Saturday, 31 January, are mandated to end voting at 2 pm.

Collation, counting, and declaration of results will only take place thereafter by the appropriate authorities.

Mr Abankwa-Yeboah noted that while some polling stations with fewer voters may complete voting earlier, they are not permitted to proceed with collation or announcement of results until the official time.

"My instructions are that, even if voting or people meant to vote in a particular polling station are exhausted, they still have to wait until 2 pm before the sorting and counting are done. So they are not going to say because all the names on the delegates' lists are over, so we are going to count, no," he said.

"So far (at the time of this report), we haven't had any incident, and the information I am getting from all the region have gone so well, and I am praying that it will continue until the time, 2 O'clock when we will do the counting," he added.

The decision, according to him, aims to ensure uniformity and transparency across all regions in the ongoing NPP flagbearer contest.
