Hundreds of fitness enthusiasts trooped to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium car park on Saturday, January 31, for the 2026 edition of the Joy FM Big Workout, as participants came together for a morning of exercise, and social connection.
The annual wellness event, which has become a flagship fixture on Ghana’s corporate and public fitness calendar, brought together keep-fit clubs, corporate organisations and members of the general public for a morning of energetic aerobics, health walk and networking.

Participants assembled in the early hours for the walk, which formed part of activities to build momentum ahead of the main workout. The walk, led by Joy FM presenters and staff set the tone for a fun-filled and high-energy morning.
The walk started from the University of Sports Stadium, moved through Trinity Church area towards the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), continued to Bawaleshie traffic light, before making a final turn at Okponglo and returning to the stadium.

Speaking to Myjoyonline at the workout grounds, Felicia Asimah from Madina, representing Zone 1 of the Greater Accra enclave Keep-Fit Club Association, said the event meant a great deal to her group.
“It means a lot to us because it is good to exercise. They really have to continue. Every year when you invite us, we’ll come in our numbers,” she said.
She noted that despite the short notice, several clubs still made the effort to attend, including Do The Work Keep-Fit, Unity Keep-Fit, Smart Fitness and Eat Stable Keep-Fit Club.

“This time the timing was short, but we were able to make it. God willing, next year or anytime you invite us, we’ll come,” she added.
For Ivan, a member of the Dodowa Keep-Fit Club, the Big Workout provided a timely opportunity to reconnect with exercise after a busy week.

“Today has been a very exciting workout. Throughout the week I haven’t been able to exercise, but through this workout I’ve been able to stretch and really work my body out. It’s been very impactful,” he said.
Ivan expressed hope that such collective fitness activities would be organised more frequently, noting that beyond exercise, the event offered opportunities to socialise and build new connections.
“I’d hope this would be a frequent thing where we all come together once in a while to work out, have fun and make connections,” he added.

The spirit of endurance and camaraderie was also evident among participants who undertook long walks to be part of the event. Sadat, representing the East Legon Keep-Fit Club, said his group arrived in numbers, at exactly 6 am.
According to him, the experience was both physically rewarding and socially enriching.
“We are 12 in number and we arrived very early, just so we don’t miss the walk. It’s a healthy walk. We burned calories and we mingled too. We also did some networking. It’s a good exercise and I encourage everybody to participate anytime the opportunity comes,” Sadat said.

The Multimedia Group, organisers of the event, say the Joy FM Big Workout is designed to encourage healthy living, collective action and stronger bonds among families, workplaces and communities at large.
