Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the lead spokesperson for the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Campaign Team, has described the former Vice President’s landslide victory in the NPP presidential primary as a foregone conclusion, asserting that the party’s delegates have always prioritised strategic continuity for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to JoyNews at the NPP National Headquarters following the official declaration on Saturday night, January 31, 2026, a triumphant Aboagye noted that despite the scepticism from some quarters, the internal logic of the NPP delegates made a Bawumia win inevitable.

Mr Aboagye argued that NPP delegates are historically sophisticated and focused on one primary goal: to recapture power.
He noted that the former Vice President’s track record and his deep-rooted connection with the party's structure made him the most rational choice for the delegates.
“You didn't believe me. But I kept saying it because we know how the delegates of the New Patriotic Party—how they process things. We have been in this situation before and we know how they took their decisions in getting the party back into power. So it was very obvious for anybody who has been watching and following the NPP. It was very obvious that the party was not going to abandon [Bawumia],” Aboagye stated.
He further emphasised that his confidence was not based on mere rhetoric but on a fundamental understanding of the party's "political DNA".
While celebrating the win, Mr Aboagye pivoted quickly to the theme of reconciliation, echoing the sentiments of the flagbearer-elect and his main rival, Kennedy Agyapong. He stressed that the primary was merely a "family contest" and that the real work—the 2028 national campaign—begins immediately.
“For me, I think what is most crucial is not tonight's victory. What is most crucial is how we all come together from this evening and work together as a unified political party and win power for the NPP,” he added.
