The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the successful conduct of its presidential candidate primary, describing the process as peaceful and well organised.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, February 1, the NDC said the primary, which produced former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer for the December 2028 presidential election, were conducted without violence and reflected positively on Ghana’s democratic credentials.
The party also praised the Ghana Police Service for what it described as the “remarkable and efficient” security arrangements put in place throughout the process.
"We take this opportunity to also commend the Ghana Police Service for the remarkable and efficient manner that they secured the entire process."
According to the NDC, the professionalism displayed by the police contributed significantly to maintaining peace and order during the primary.

Beyond congratulating the NPP, the NDC reiterated its commitment to multi-party cooperation in strengthening Ghana’s democracy.
It said it welcomed collaboration and constructive participation from the NPP and all other political parties in what it described as a shared national effort to deepen democratic governance.
The opposition party further noted the concession statements issued by candidates who were unsuccessful in the NPP contest, describing them as reconciliatory.
It expressed hope that such statements would translate into actions that promote unity within the party and contribute to national political stability.
We have also taken note of the reconciliatory concession statements from the other unsuccessful candidates, and hope that they would walk their talk," the statement concluded.
