Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasised the need for party members to begin working together immediately to address issues within constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He made the remarks on Monday, February 2, during a visit from party members who visited to congratulate him on his election victory.
“We need to work closely because if we don't, there are many things that I will not know about. So we need to continue meeting and work together,” Dr Bawumia said, stressing the importance of early coordination among party officials and supporters.
The former Vice-President highlighted that while some might perceive three years as a long lead-up to the elections, it is crucial to start preparing now.
“People think three years is long, but it isn’t. The earlier we start, the better it will be for ustod deal with the problems that we see,” he added.
Dr Bawumia further noted that waiting until 2028 to tackle issues could be too late, warning that timely engagement would allow the party to resolve challenges and strengthen its grassroots support.
“But if we wait until 2028, it will be too late, but now we can solve a lot of problems,” he said.
He concluded by urging party members to engage with constituents, bring people on board, and target key areas for political outreach. “We can talk to people, we can bring them on board, a nd we can target people in the constituencies that we need to speak to if we are to win the seat back,” Dr Bawumia emphasised.
