The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has moved to clarify the official cost of a DV vehicle registration plate.
He stated that it is fixed at GH¢417.25, contrary to reports of significantly higher prices being charged by intermediaries.
His clarification comes in response to public complaints that some unauthorised middlemen, commonly referred to as “goro boys and girls”, are selling DV plates for amounts ranging between GH¢1,300 and GH¢1,500, leaving many vehicle owners disgruntled.
In a Facebook post on February 4, Mr Kotey explained that the DVLA has limited the issuance of DV plates strictly to registered car dealerships and recognised garages, as part of efforts to streamline the process.
He noted that the restriction is intended to tighten controls, eliminate unauthorised practices and curb the exploitation of applicants seeking DV registration plates.
