President John Dramani Mahama has celebrated the enduring friendship between Ghana and Zambia, highlighting Ghana’s historic support for Zambia’s struggle for independence.
Addressing Members of Parliament in Zambia on Thursday, February 5, President Mahama emphasised that Ghana’s role in Zambia’s liberation is “well documented,” noting that generations of Zambian freedom fighters were shaped by Pan-Africanist ideals cultivated at institutions such as the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute in Winneba.
“Today, our friendship remains grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and common aspirations for peace, development and African dignity,” Mahama said.
He also paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, whose vision of African unity and Pan-African solidarity inspired liberation movements across the continent.
Mahama noted that these ideals continue to guide collaboration among African nations in pursuit of democracy, socio-economic development, and continental progress.
