Lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, have dismissed claims that he was arrested by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), describing such reports as inaccurate.
The clarification follows a Facebook post by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centre Limited, Dzifa Gunu, which suggested that Mr Ofosu Nkansah had been “picked up” by the NIB after allegedly failing to honour earlier invitations from investigators.
According to his legal team, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Mr Ofosu Nkansah voluntarily presented himself to the NIB to assist with investigations into allegations surrounding the alleged sale of government-sponsored foreign scholarships by the Scholarship Secretariat.
The lawyers explained that their client’s appearance before the NIB was in response to a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who ordered an investigation into claims Mr Ofosu Nkansah made during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.
During the programme, he alleged that some individuals were paying money to secure overseas scholarships, raising concerns about transparency and equity in the award process.
They stressed that, contrary to claims circulating on social media, Mr Ofosu Nkansah fully cooperated with investigators and was neither arrested nor detained at any point.
A statement from the Presidency dated 3 February 2026 described the allegations as “serious and of grave public concern” and tasked the NIB with establishing the facts, identifying any persons involved, and submitting its findings directly to the President for further action.
