The controversial proposal to rename the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), the latest economic data on inflation, and the NPP flagbearership victory by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are expected to dominate national conversation on Newsfile, as the current affairs programme returns to the airwaves.
Host Samson Lardy Anyenini will lead a high-powered panel of experts, legal practitioners, and political figures to dissect the government’s latest policy directions and their broader implications for the Ghanaian populace, as well as the way forward for Dr Bawumia after his decisive win.
The programme, scheduled for Saturday, 7th February 2026, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon on Joy FM and Joy News, comes at a time of heightened political activity following the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary and the subsequent introduction of the Accra International Airport Bill in Parliament.
One of the primary topics, titled "Change KIA, @ What Cost?", will examine the legislative push to transition from the name of Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka to "Accra International Airport".
The discussion is likely to touch upon the concerns raised by various interest groups regarding the prioritisation of symbolic changes over infrastructure needs.
In the second segment of the show, titled "3.8% Inflation – Served Hot, Cooked?", the panel will scrutinise the latest figures from the Ghana Statistical Service. While the government has touted the 13th consecutive monthly decline in inflation as a sign of successful fiscal management under Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, critics continue to question how these macroeconomic gains are translating into relief for the average consumer.
The final segment will examine how Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can unite the NPP for their 2028 agenda of unseating the NDC after winning the mandate of delegates. Even though Dr Bawumia outperformed his competitors, the results reveal a significant gap, with his opponents maintaining a substantial following.
The panel includes Kofi Bentil, Lawyer and Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa; Senyo Hosi, Convener of the OneGhana Movement; Atta Issah, MP for Sagnarigu and member of the Parliamentary Finance and Trade Committees; Kwadwo Poku, Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Policy and Research (INSTEPR); and Paul Adom Otchere, host of Good Evening Ghana.
The programme will be broadcast live on Joy 99.7 FM, Joy News TV, and various digital platforms, offering a comprehensive platform for citizens to engage with the week's most pressing national issues.
