This Saturday's edition of JoyNews' Newsfile will examine the renewed debate over renaming Ghana’s main international airport, Kotoka International Airport (KIA). This follows a proposal by the Minority Leader to change the name to Accra International Airport, arguing that General Emmanuel Kotoka’s legacy remains controversial because of his role in the 1966 coup that overthrew Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Others, however, believe the airport should instead be renamed after a prominent Ga traditional leader or personality, given the land’s indigenous custodianship. The issue has sparked strong political disagreement, with warnings that renaming could be divisive and costly.

The second segment will turn to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), where Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s election as flagbearer has revealed deep factional tensions within the party. Analysts will explore whether his reconciliation efforts are simply about party unity ahead of 2028, or if they signal a broader internal power reshuffle.

The final topic will address Ghana’s sharp decline in inflation to 3.8%. While government sees this as a sign of economic recovery, many citizens argue that prices remain high and living conditions have not improved. The programme will explore the disconnect between official economic figures and the everyday reality of Ghanaians.
