President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in five new ambassadors tasked with representing Ghana abroad, emphasising the need for strategic, results-driven diplomacy to advance the country’s economic and development priorities.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, held at the Jubilee House on Monday, February 9, Mr Mahama urged them to embrace a “national reset agenda” by moving beyond routine diplomatic duties towards purposeful and impactful engagement.

“As heads of mission, you are required to reflect this national reset agenda by moving from passive representation to purposeful engagement — from routine reporting to proactive problem solving, and from presence to impact,” he stated.

He further stressed that the ambassadors’ work must be closely aligned with Ghana’s development priorities, particularly in promoting economic interests on the global stage.

The five diplomats sworn in are:

1. Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare – Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
2. Lt. Col. Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed – Ambassador to the Republic of Mali
3. Mr. Kofi Attor – Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba
4. Mr. Emmanuel Opeku – Ambassador-in-Situ
5. Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam – High Commissioner to the Republic of Malta

President Mahama highlighted that modern diplomacy requires more than ceremonial presence. Ambassadors are expected to identify opportunities for Ghanaian businesses, foster bilateral trade, and proactively address challenges that may affect national interests.

“Your mission plans must be firmly aligned with Ghana’s development priorities,” he added.
