JoyNews is learning that the Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, is currently being interrogated at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Sources indicate that his mobile phones have been seized as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of vote buying during the party’s parliamentary primary.
JoyNews further understands that the MP-elect may spend the night in OSP custody as investigators continue their work.
This development comes amid heightened public attention on claims of inducement and gift-giving during the Ayawaso East contest, which has sparked controversy within the NDC and beyond.
Meanwhile, the three member committee established to probe the alleged vote-buying incident is expected to submit its report later today, Tuesday.
The NDC had earlier announced the formation of the committee following complaints and public concerns over reports of gifts, including television sets, allegedly distributed in the constituency during the primary process.
Party officials have assured supporters and the general public that appropriate decisions will be taken after the findings of the committee are presented.
