Residents of Plau in Somanya were thrown into shock after the body of a 34-year-old woman was discovered at her family home under suspicious circumstances on February 3.
The deceased, identified as Ama Kwaku Oyo, was reportedly found unresponsive in her boyfriend’s room earlier that evening before her body was later transported and left at her family's residence.
A source at the Somanya District Police Command told the Ghana News Agency that officers received a distress call around 10:00 p.m. from a neighbour reporting that a dead body had been dropped at the family's house.
The Police quickly arrived at the scene and confirmed that the woman was unresponsive and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary information gathered by police suggested that the woman had visited her boyfriend, identified as Tetteh Bi, earlier in the day.
The pair reportedly prepared fufu together, though she did not eat.
“She later went into the room, and when he followed, he found her lying still. We were also told she was known to drink heavily,” the source said.
Police sources further indicated that the boyfriend allegedly placed the body in a tricycle, locally called a “pragya,” and transported it to her family home before fleeing the area, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
“The body has been deposited at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital and will be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy,” the police source added.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to locate the boyfriend to assist in determining what led to the woman’s death.
