Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united in the face of what he described as mounting political pressure and possible intimidation.
Addressing party faithful at the NPP Thanksgiving Ceremony on February 15, he cautioned that attempts could be made to weaken the party’s cohesion through arrests and other tactics.
“Colleagues, they will try to divide us and come with all manner of arrests. When their back is against the wall, they will come up with all manner of arrests,” he warned.
Mr Afenyo-Markin urged members not to panic if such situations arise, stressing that political persecution should not derail the party’s focus.
“Please, there is nothing wrong with being arrested as a politician,” he said, drawing cheers from sections of the audience.
He emphasised the need for solidarity behind the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Let’s stand together behind our flagbearer, Dr Bawumia, and win power in 2028,” he added.
The Minority Leader concluded by encouraging party members to stay disciplined and resolute, insisting that unity and determination would be key to the NPP’s electoral prospects.
