The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), has issued a stirring call for national unity and shared responsibility to mark the commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast.
In a formal message addressed to the Muslim Ummah on 19th February 2026, the Minister extended heartfelt blessings, describing the month-long fast as a "profound journey of faith".
Ibrahim’s message underscores the government’s commitment to religious harmony, framing the spiritual disciplines of Islam as essential pillars for building a stable and integrity-driven Ghanaian society.
The Minister highlighted that the core tenets of Ramadan—prayer, fasting, and charity—transcend personal spirituality to offer a blueprint for civic duty.
He noted that these disciplines inspire Ghanaians to live as responsible citizens who are fundamentally committed to the "common good".
"Ramadan... reminds us of the eternal values of humility, prayer, fasting, charity, and reconciliation. These disciplines not only strengthen our relationship with Allah but also inspire us to live as responsible citizens, committed to peace, unity, and the common good," he stated.
A key theme of the Minister’s message was the need for reconciliation. He urged all Muslims to use this sacred period to deepen their resolve to build a community grounded in mutual respect and shared responsibility.
The Pillars of the Minister’s Message:
- Humility and Prayer: Strengthening the spiritual bond with the Creator.
- Charity and Fasting: Developing empathy for the less fortunate and fostering self-discipline.
- Reconciliation and Peace: Ensuring that religious observance leads to a more united and peaceful nation.
The Ministry's statement concluded with a prayer for the Muslim community, asking that Allah accept their Dua (supplications) and guide them along the right path throughout the holy month.
"Ramadan Mubarak!!" the Minister declared, signalling the official commencement of the state's recognition of the fasting period.
