Two suspected robbers are in police custody and recovering from gunshot wounds after an attempted attack on the residence of a Court of Appeal judge.
The Police reported that the incident occurred late Tuesday night at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The suspects, identified as Patrick Alor, 23, and Akwasi Gyamfi, 21, were allegedly attempting to break into the judge’s private vehicle when they were confronted.
Police details indicate the two men scaled the fence of the property armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors.
Their actions were detected by the judge’s police bodyguard, who was on duty at the time.
According to a police statement, when the officer moved to intervene, the suspects resisted and attempted to disarm him.
“Acting in self-defence and in line with police operational procedures, the officer discharged his firearm,” the statement read.
Both men were struck in the legs by gunfire.
They were subsequently arrested and taken under police guard to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the officer for his “vigilance, professionalism and bravery,” noting that his swift action likely prevented a serious attack on a member of the judiciary.
The Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting judges and the public, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities
