The United Party (UP) has called on Ghanaians to use the nation’s 69th Independence Day as a turning point from maintaining stability to embracing transformation.
In a statement released on 6th March 2026, the party honoured the courage and vision of the generation that secured Ghana’s freedom and laid the foundation for nationhood.
“Since 6th March 1957, our country has endured and matured through many challenges. Ghana has built and sustained a democratic culture and political stability that continues to command respect across Africa and the world. This stability is a national achievement we must all protect.”
However, he warned that stability alone is not enough.
“Stability must not become our final destination. The next frontier of our national journey must be transformation.”
Mr Owusu emphasised that the true promise of independence lies in integrity, leadership, accountable institutions, and the use of national resources to advance the prosperity of all Ghanaians.
“The true promise of independence was not merely political freedom; it was the creation of a nation where integrity guides leadership, institutions serve the people faithfully, and national resources are used to advance the collective prosperity of all Ghanaians.”
He cautioned that corruption remains one of the greatest threats to this promise.
“Corruption weakens institutions, diverts resources meant for development, and undermines the confidence of citizens in the structures of governance.”
As the nation celebrates this historic day, Mr Owusu called for renewed commitment to integrity, accountability, and patriotic service.
“We must collectively support efforts that strengthen our institutions, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that public office remains a sacred trust exercised solely in the interest of the Ghanaian people.”
He concluded by urging Ghanaians to translate the country’s political stability into economic progress, ethical leadership, and national transformation.
“The future of our Republic depends not only on stability but on our ability to translate that stability into economic progress, ethical leadership, and national transformation.”
Mr Owusu wished all Ghanaians a happy Independence Day and encouraged the nation to build a Ghana worthy of past sacrifices and future hopes.
“On this 69th Independence Day, let us recommit ourselves to building a Ghana worthy of the sacrifices of the past and the hopes of generations yet to come.”
