The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has indicated that the government is prepared to consider sending Sandra Baafi Boateng abroad for specialised medical care if health professionals recommend it.
Addressing Parliament on Monday, March 9, the Minister provided an update on the condition of Ms Baafi Boateng, who was injured during a stampede at a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
He assured Members of Parliament that the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring her treatment and recovery.
“I wish to assure this Honourable House that the Ministry of Health has remained actively engaged with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that Ms Sandra Baafi Boateng receives the requisite specialist care and that every necessary step is being taken to expedite her treatment and recovery,” Mr Akandoh told the House.
According to the Minister, Ms Baafi Boateng sustained severe injuries during the recruitment exercise held on November 12, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
She was initially admitted for inpatient treatment under specialist supervision, with the government covering all medical expenses to ease the financial burden on her family.
He added that since February 26, 2026, Ms Baafi Boateng has been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital, where she is receiving further care from a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
Her treatment programme currently includes rehabilitation and social support aimed at improving her recovery.
Mr Akandoh emphasised that the government is assessing all available medical options, both within Ghana and abroad, to ensure she receives the best possible care.
Ms Baafi Boateng has remained bedridden since the incident during the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces enlistment exercise.
