The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) in Ghana has been honoured for its long-standing role in promoting labour rights and maintaining industrial harmony in the country.
The recognition was announced by the Union’s General Secretary, Morgan Ayawine, who said the award highlights the organisation’s contribution to Ghana’s socio-economic development through sustained advocacy for workers and collaboration with industry.
According to him, the Union received the honour at the 3rd Ghana Development Awards held in Accra. The event, organised by Business Executive, brought together key figures from government, diplomatic missions, business and industry across Africa.
ICU-Ghana was recognised for its “Outstanding Contribution to Labour Rights and Industrial Harmony for National Development.” The award was presented to Mr. Ayawine in the form of a medal, plaque and certificate.
In a citation read during the ceremony, organisers commended the Union for its leadership and commitment to national development.
“The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), Ghana has demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and partnership in advancing Ghana’s development, inspiring resilience, supporting socio-economic recovery and sustaining national progress,” the citation stated.
Reacting to the recognition, Mr. Ayawine said the Union was deeply humbled by the honour and expressed appreciation to the organisers.
“This award serves as both an inspiration and a springboard, propelling the Union to greater heights in its advocacy for labour, business and industry,” he said.
He dedicated the award to the management, staff and the broader membership of ICU-Ghana, as well as Ghanaian workers in general.
Founded to champion workers’ rights and welfare, the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) Ghana remains one of the country’s most prominent labour unions, representing workers across several sectors of the economy in Ghana.
