Parliament has formally concluded deliberations on the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, 27th February 2026.
Leaders of both the Majority and Minority caucuses delivered their final remarks on Wednesday, March 11, parliament noted in a Facebook post after Wednesday's proceedings.
In his final remarks, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, criticised the Government’s decision to purchase a Presidential Jet amid incomplete hospital projects across the country.

He also expressed concern over unfulfilled promises to create jobs for the youth, highlighting that many young people were unable to participate in recent security recruitment exercises due to a lack of internet access.
Additionally, he condemned the reduction in the cocoa producer price, arguing it worsened the conditions of cocoa farmers.
Responding, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, defended government policy, emphasising that the cocoa producer price has reached unprecedented levels under President Mahama.

“When the world pays more for a bar of chocolate, the farmer in Sefwi, Enchi, and Tepa finally sees a reflection of that value in his pocket,” he said.
He described the initiative as part of a broader effort to restore the dignity of Ghanaian agriculture and advance local industrialisation, aiming to make “Made in Ghana” a global standard of excellence.
The debate concluded with Parliament adopting the motion on the SONA, moved by Isaac Adongo (MP for Bolgatanga Central) and seconded by John Ntim Fordjour (MP for Assin South), signalling cross-party endorsement of the President’s policy agenda for 2026.
