President John Dramani Mahama has revealed his administration has no plans to use public funds to fly supporters to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to him, there is a huge cost involved in the government trying to transport fans to go and support the Black Stars at the global showpiece.

Until the Dzamepe report, the government used to fly supporters to sporting events, but Mahama says that practice will not be encouraged again.

"In consonance with the Dzamepe report, the government has no plans to allocate public funds to fly supporters to the World Cup," he said.

"The logistical support of flying and accommodating even just 200 supporters is staggering. The estimated cost for just 200 supporters is close to $2 million.

"We all want to see our fans in the stands, but we must be responsible in how we use public resources."

The President was speaking at the World Cup Fundraising event for the Black Stars on Friday, March 20.

National supporters group who have plans of being in Mexico, Canada and the USA must raise individual funds or seek sponsorship on their own.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
