Safo Nketia, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of resorting to what he described as “desperate tactics, ” in an attempt to distract the government from addressing national challenges.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr Nketia said the NPP’s recent activities including renewed focus on the cocoa sector and outreach to head porters (kayayei) were signs of a party struggling to regain relevance.
He alleged that the NPP’s eight-year administration was characterised by corruption, economic mismanagement and stagnation, and claimed the party was now attempting to rewrite its record.
Mr Nketia however, commended the current administration under President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as progress in addressing key national issues.
He urged supporters of the opposition to exercise restraint and support the government’s efforts, adding that the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remained committed to rebuilding the country.
The MCE cited developments in the education and health sector, as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
He also criticised the NPP’s use of press conferences and public platforms to assign blame, arguing that such actions do not promote national development.
“It is unfortunate that they are using their sitting rooms for such programmes. It does not speak well for the nation,” he said.
Mr Nketia called on the opposition to collaborate with the government in addressing the country’s challenges rather than engaging in what he termed “petty politics.”
