JoyNews will on Wednesday, 1st April, 2026, premiere a compelling new four-part feature series, “When the Sea Comes Home,” exposing the growing threat of coastal erosion to lives, livelihoods and heritage along Ghana’s coastline.

The sea is no longer a distant danger. In Accra and several coastal communities, rising tides are already at residents’ doorsteps.

Communities such as Osu, Teshie, La, Labadi and Nungua are steadily losing homes to relentless waves, forcing families out of communities they have lived in for generations.

In some areas, walls have collapsed, households have been displaced and personal belongings have been lost to the sea.

Even historic landmarks are under threat. Iconic structures like Christiansborg Castle in Osu face the risk of being swallowed by the ocean - a danger that could wipe away centuries of cultural heritage if urgent action is not taken.

Produced by Emmanuel Dzivenu, the series combines striking visuals, personal testimonies and on-the-ground reporting to reveal the human and cultural cost of rising seas.

Each episode explores the impact on fishermen, families and historic sites, while also highlighting the urgent need for protective and sustainable solutions for vulnerable coastal communities.
